Sword swallower Dan Meyer made history May 18, 2007 by swallowing a solid steel sword while submerged underwater in a tank of live sharks and stingrays at Ripley's Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, SC. To be precise, Meyer swallowed a 30-inch long solid steel sword while submerged 15 feet underwater surrounded by 80 sharks and stingrays in 85,000 gallons of salt water. Meyer (also known as "Captain Cutless") swallowed two different sized swords during the feat - a smaller sword first, followed by a longer 30-inch sword with 24-inch long blade.

The feat makes Meyer the first person in America to ever swallow a sword underwater. However, Ken Smith and Bill McLean are in discussions with NAUI, and "Underwater Sword Swallowing in Shark-Filled Tanks" may be added to the "Intro To Tech" curriculum as an option shortly, assuming the City of Ottawa clears us to add sharks to the Patro Pool. Stay tuned for updates.

Terry, I though we were gonna keep this quiet for a while. Anyway, it turns out neither NAUI nor Burton's Dive Service is gonna have anything to do with this type of thing. Oh well.........c'est la vie.

Really?? PADI has been teaching "Intro To Shark Tank Sword Swallowing" for years - not to mention their "Advanced Shark Tank Sword Swallowing", "REALLY Advanced Shark Tank Sword Swallowing", ""Night and Low Visibility Shark Tank Sword Swallowing", "Cave Shark Tank Sword Swallowing", and "Underwater Videography for Shark Tank Sword Swallowers".

I can't believe we're simply writing off this emerging market segment.

Only for the sharks. But of course, they've all got relatives in the PADI marketing division.
