Looking for the perfect collection of love songs on CD to communicate your affection to the diver of your dreams?

The BBC has released an entire CD featuring marine mating calls from a range of sea creatures, including horny North Sea haddock, walrus, and the Atlantic spotted dolphin.

For the curious, haddock courting noises start as slow knocks and turn into a sound like an overworked lawnmower.

Check it out here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/mediaselector/check/player/nol/newsid_6300000/newsid_6302400?redirect=6302457.stm&news=1&nbram=1&bbram=1&nbwm=1&bbwm=1

Yeah, and some of those waterproof MP3 players. That way we could dive, listen to the CD, and pretend we were actually underwater. Which we are. Hmm. I may need to think this through.

A whole disc of fish mating songs does raise the intriguing possibility of cover versions by other artists, though. "Like a Sturgeon", by Madonna? "You Oughta Roe", by Alanis? "From the Bottom of my Tank", by Britney Spears? "That's What Fins Are For", by Stevie Wonder?

Or for the lovers of classical stuff, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony aka the "Ode to Koi"?

Just don't crank the volume if you're diving in the ocean; you never know what you'll attract!

Schubert wrote a "Trout Symphony"

That is the official nickname for it (instead of number "x" in "y key"). I didn't make it up.
