T'was another fine day at ye-olde-cave. With a water temp of 56f the run times are starting to get nice enough for the longer runtimes this cave demands. Marc and I ventured up on Sunday without our better half. They having canceled for reasons unknown prior to the dive. Hopefully they can make it out for the next one.
The truck trundled to a stop at 'the spot' and as we started to gear up one of the landowner who has so kindly granted us use of his shore for entry's neighbors came over and asked us a few questions about access and permission. It seems some people have been sneak diving again. *tisk tisk* Hopefully we don't loose access because of a few yahoos.
Flow is down from a few weeks ago.. and temperature is way up. 56f up. Marc lead in and we did some new to him cave. Unknown to me Marc decided to hang a right at the first T (you dog, you) and head into the unknown. It quickly pinched down into some very very small and horridly silty mess. Just as it was getting interesting (for him.. I couldn't see a damn thing) he turned us around and we went back to the T. Baby steps are the name of the game when you go small.. and that was assuredly Marc's next baby step. 40-50 feet of 16 inch silt filled sidemount fun.
Back at the T we started heading left. After about 1800 feet (40 min) Marc had run out of clothespins... of which he started with about 8 and we turned it right before it got BIG and right at the apex of the first circuit. Something I am certain we will proof the other direction on our next venture.
Every time I dive this cave I find a newfound respect for Sawasky and Richie and the other people who mapped this place. I also fall a little bit more in love with the cave.
