Okay, who is this team and why are they so... um... great??? The only way these playoffs could be any sweeter for a Senators fan is if the Leafs had been one of the teams they crushed on the way to the finals. But the Leafs were too... inept... to make the playoffs. Could the Sens wipe the Sabres in 4 games? Stay tuned :D

Having that nice BBQ buffalo steak for supper tonight was a worthy celebration of the home team beating the best regular season team in the NHL. And it was really nice that Daniel Alfredsson scored the winning goal - he's got to be the most gentlemanly, hard-working, best all-round NHL player in the league today. He deserved that one.
So... now that the Senators have scarfed down some buffalo.... will it be wings or duck on the menu next? :D

I need a quick course in hockey and its terminology so that I can survive the next month in Ottawa and not be shunned by everyone. Or is it enough to simply keep saying "Go Sens"?

Terry, live dangerously.... cheer for whoever comes out of the Western Conference finals instead :D
It'll be much more interesting than jumping on the Sens bandwagon with the rest of the former Leafs & Canadians fans

I think I have the solution. I have written out a list of sentences which I shall memorize and deploy at every opportunity. If delivered frequently enough, with sufficient intensity, I think I can pass for a die-hard Sens fan. Here they are:
1) We?ve come a long way as a team eh? Remember that first season back in 92/93 when we were 10 and 70?
2) Gosh, isn?t it amazing how those guys skate backwards AND forward?
3) ****ing refs! Put your glasses on!
4) Man, Don Cherry is an idiot.
5) Say, did you know that the word ?puck? is in all likelihood derived from the verb to puck (a cognate of poke) used in hurling for striking or pushing a ball, from the Scottish Gaelic ?puc? or the Irish ?poc?, meaning to poke, punch or deliver a blow?
6) Well, it?s certainly not the the game I remember from the Russ Jackson years.
Whaddya think?

You forgot one....
7) When is the CBC finally going to retire Bob Cole and Harry Neale?

Well, it looks like the Senators have not only met their match in the Ducks, but met the one team that is better than they are. Game 1 of the finals was painful to watch - the Sens looked like a minor league team being bullied by the big boys. Yesterday wasn't much better. My prediction: anything from a Ducks sweep in 4 to the Ducks in 6 games. I don't think Ottawa can pull this one off. The Ducks are simply the better, stronger, tougher team. I'd love to be proved wrong, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Well, the Sens just gotta score more goals. That's all there is to it.

I am sure there is a Sens Fans site somewhere you can submit your suggestion too Terry. I am not sure they thought of that one yet.

From all evidence, Bill, it would appear that they have not.

Meh... give the Ducks their due, Jimmy.... they simply outskate and outplay the Sens - no choking involved. Their style is more old-fashioned NHL than anything else....

Naw, the Sens just continue to think a fast, European-like team has a hope in hell on the small NHL rink in a physical playoff game. The Ducks are the first team they have played that didn't just rollover. I don't think its the Ducks outplaying the Sens, I think its the Sens not stepping up there game to playoff level.
Well, that and the Sens pissass defencemen letting the Ducks have the line and the point with plenty of room for a shot. Over and over again. They don't go in all that often, but thats all Emery. Heck, Emery has carried this team against the Ducks. To bad a goaly can't win a game, just make it harder to loose.

Meh....whatever. The Ducks are the better team in this series. It'll all be over tomorrow night and we won't have to endure all the hoopla anymore.

Got to agree with Tom this one Jim. The Ducks are a great team that plays a defensive style of hockey not often seen in the Eastern Conference, and the Sens are having a hard time adapting their game and competing well against the Ducks shut down line.
BTW, any team that makes it to a cup final should never be referred to as chokers. Just look at what it takes to make it to the conference finals let alone the cup finals. After all only 4 teams from a field of 30 make it to the conference finals, and only two of 30 to cup finals.
Considering the changes to both personnel and playing styles, despite loosing key players to the salary cap, and battling back from one of the worst starts in the franchise's history, I think the Sens have shaken off all the past labels, and should be congratulated for going all the way to a cup final.
As to coasting through the Eastern Conference, get real buddy. Tye dominated the best in the east by playing a very similar style of hockey that the Ducks are now using to beat the SENS..the only big difference is that the Sens didn't use trap hockey, nor clutch and grab hockey to get where they are.
Anyways, win or loose in the next three games, the Sens have earned the respect of a lot more fans, and have showed that they can compete at an elite level...they just ran head long into a team that played a bit better in the last four games.
Here endeth the rant....

With 20 minutes of play left in Game 5, and the Anaheim Ducks leading 4-2 against the Binghampton - er, sorry Ottawa Senators, I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict the Ducks are going to take the Cup in 5 games :D

Well, they went out with a whimper. The Ducks did to them what the Sens did to Buffalo. The better team won, no question. Now, it is time for summer to start.... maybe I'll even go diving every so often, although the gunky green water around here is about as appetizing as a raw snail sandwich.

I guess I should have been more specific about who they were supposed to score more goals AGAINST. My bad.

Well this one's in the books. Talk about a night of curses. It's one thine to have to deal with a stronger team, but to have to fight the officials AND the hockey gods proved just too much for the Sens. Three goals against where the last player to make contact with the puck was a Senator. OOPSS. You got to feel for Phillips. First the "Emery" incident, than a broken stick play that lead to another goal. Yup they fell apart, but I'm still very proud of this team and what it accomplished this season. From the poor start due to reforging, through the injuries, and then into the play offs this team has far more successes than failures, and that, in my humble opinion, makes this year a success.
Time to put hockey aside and get back in the water, until October that is.
SENS FANS BE PROUD.
