Hey all, not quite certified yet - so can't yet call myself a diver.

*looks pointedly at owlbill hoping that he can magically made the water warmer so that we could go out asap*

On that note, how cold would the water be for you* to not dive it in a wet suit, and what tricks do you have to warm up between dives?

Also, is diving in conditions that are too cold really as dire as the NAUI text seems to emphasize?

Thanks in advance,

Dale =)

a) Take your wetsuit off. Sound counterintuitive, but it's...well, WET...and a great conductor of heat away from your body. Dry off and get into sweats or a track suit between dives, and park yourself near a heat source. It makes clambering back into the cold wetsuit that much harder, but what the heck.

b) Allow some time. Your body is pretty good at restoring its own core temp as long as you're not continuing to lose heat.

c) Hot chocolate is better than hot coffee (not quite as diuretic). Hot soup is better than either...a truly miraculous restorative.
