I've posted this question on a couple of other sites, so please forgive the double posting if you've read this someplace else:
I need your collective help and knowledge on this one...My son (15 years this June) is leaning toward a career in the Canadian Coast Guard, and SAR in particular. He's been talking about his various options and paths for some time now and since this is his grade 9 year, it isn't going to be long before his dreams are realized. Before that however, he wants to prepare (and I fully support him on this).
To that end, my question to you, the knowledgeable and well traveled OD Board, is this - Do any of you know of any summer programs (in Ontario or out East) that at 15 years of age; he can get some water / boating experience? A one to two week summer program where he can learn seamanship skills (small craft operation), Marine First Aid, Restricted Radio Operators, etc...
