We are long overdue to organize a southern dive trip. So... does anyone have suggestions as to where they might like to go...or when?

We of course have some ideas of our own but maybe one of you has a better one LOL. Sort of thinking November or February ish.

Liveaboard?

Possible, but would cost a fair bit more.

Bonaire and Turks/Caicos had been in mind.

Belize liveaboard sounds interesting.

I know that people often do repeat trips to Roatan, Bonaire and parts of Mexico of course.

Indonesia: only 600/wk all included. Of course the airfare is a lot more than that...

I dove in Puerto Rico, you have to go to the south western part of the island. The place i went was called Rincon and from there you take a charter to Desecheo Island...Beautiful vis is amazing ...lots of fishes. Plus the people who owns the shop are from Chicago really nice people.

Having done a Belize liveaboard (on no less than the ill fated Wave Dancer the year before her demise), I can say that the reefs are something to behold. Just don't bother with the so-called "famous" Blue Hole. About as big a let-down as finding out your hot new girlfriend wants to wait until after marriage. Visiting the Mayan ruins on the last day is worth the dough. Just don't expect much of Belize City.

If you're serious about liveaboards, do the Caribbean Explorer and dive around Saba - even more magnificent than Belize (having done Saba from shore).

Speaking of Saba, if you're looking for a real vacation, as opposed to a five dive a day race to see who gets the highest nitrogen loading, Saba is the place. Living up in Windwardside at 1,200ft above sea level, you do 2 nitrox dives a day and spend the rest of your time relaxing. A couple of nice restaurants within walking distance, and all is well. Only sounds you hear on Saba is the wind, some goats and dogs and nothing else. Closest thing to heaven I've experienced.
