Just curious to see if anyone has ever thought about becoming an instructor. Why or why not? etc.
I will start. I started teaching because I was already helping on courses and it felt good to do that. Not to mention, it helped me keep my most basic skills in check. Becoming an instructor was the next logical step for me. This was before I began working for the shop so it was not a business decision.

I know I hadn't really given it any thought --- and then a funny thing happened --- recently I was having a casual discussion at the shop one evening with a couple of senior divers (won't mention any names Bill and Marie) about instructing and the next thing I knew I had agreed to be a "TA" for the balance of a current basic course! I do agree it is a great way to review and refresh basic skills.

I can tell you from my experience. Limited but still....
I became a DM to improve my skills and situational awareness. Having had the - do I or don't I go forth and be an instructor talk with my DM instructor.... I took a back to that training. Reasons were...too much political BS. From the dive shop I was doing business with. Not the shop itself more of the arrogant instructors I was DM'ing for during my DM training. Being treated like a complete slave and being dictated to by an other instructor in training - not the instructor I was with..another one that was there to observe during one open water weekend in Brockville. It brought a sour flavor to the whole instructor training.

I think you would find that the DM/Instructor experince at Burtons would be much different.

Well Jim
maybe so. But..me in Quebec...Not an option to do IT in another province.
Plus I would like to dive more - without the politics.

Yeah, they kinda have you by the..........um.........long hose. LOL
Also, about the "dive more" comment, that is why we are kind of looking. The more people there are to share the workload, the more personal diving time there is for all.
