View Full Version : Where am I in Canada.......?
kurat
December 12th, 2007, 03:36 PM
The idea is to post a picture, taken somewhere in Canada, so that other members can try to guess where it is. If you correctly guess the location, you get to post your own picture, and the game continues.
Originally, I was thinking about limiting the game to Ontario & Quebec, since we seem to be mainly from here, but as the game progresses maybe we can increase the boundaries. Many of us travel and have family spread across the provinces, so pitch in.
(we are limiting to Ontario and Quebec for now)
A few ground rule suggestions:
To start, the locations should be fairly iconic, and not too difficult. As time goes on, based on the level of participation, we can either boost or soften the difficulty to keep things interesting.
The quest is for the location with the town, not just the town itself.
Lastly, this isn't a photo quality contest, so get out there and shoot with whatever you got!
Other suggestions on how to shape this game are welcome.

Well, I did read the rules, and you said "originally, I was thinking" but never clearly stated whether we were or not using all of Canada.

Lets stick with ON & PQ for now and then as the game progresses we can expand the borders a bit (plus I suck at the ones outside of those two provinces :P)

There was an Ontario flag.
The 1965 hint.
The chain link fence suggested a prison.
The architecture style sort of looked Empire, which I'd found out about while trying to identify the previous Quebec Assemblee Nationale photo.
Looking through Google's suggestions, the fifth link was a photo essay about the Don Jail which included an arch keystone carving that looked a bit like the central arch in the tiny image in the posted pic.
Actually, as a general comment, I'm often somewhat curious how other people have managed to solve things. Maybe everyone might throw in a few words about how they solved things. Or is that giving away the magic trick?
Your turn.

Bill, from what you've seen with this game elsewhere, do you figure the early correct guesses are because the targets are too easy (we're not picking things obscure enough), because people are too good at Googling, or because this particular crowd isn't bothering with 'guessing' but just wait until they're fairly confident they're actually right? ;-) What's the measure of a good challenge, how long it takes? It seems like we're averaging a few hours of serious effort per round.
If it's not a difficulty thing, expanding the range to the whole country might not help much, although it might still be worth doing since it might be more entertaining.
