I have dived the American once long ago, as part of my Advanced course, as a second dive after the Keystorm. I remember being massively unimpressed, but that's probably because:
a) in those days most of my dives were about: " How Will I Find The Line Back To The Boat"?
b) I came back to the Princess with a slick of oil on my fins that incurred the discrete but distinct displeasure of Mr. Sam Burton.
Well, you should always go back again. Dove it again this weekend after the Keystorm, for the first time in ten years, and for newer divers who haven't done it yet, well, check it out. Viz was excellent (about 20-25 feet), more and bigger pickerel than I've seen on most SL wrecks, and a couple of interesting photo areas around the crushed stern. Still have to watch buoyancy to avoid the ubiquitous oil, but of course, for Burton's-trained divers, that's never a problem. :-)
